Best of Troy Winners
For over 40 years, the Troy Chamber of Commerce has recognized the outstanding physical investments made by businesses in the city. The 2008 honorees were selected by the Best of Troy Committee of the Chamber and were announced at its annual Holiday Luncheon.

Walsh College was highlighted for the local efforts it has made to help our environment and conserve resources. Virtually all the building materials used have at least some recycled content, and at least 10% of materials used will be recycled. The striking design of the Walsh College Barry Center alerts visitors to the unique mission of the building: sustainable design that supports a business curriculum and welcomes the community to partake of the Walsh experience. The Barry Center’s success as a Green Building is achieved through a host of design strategies and construction practices. The storm water management consists of surface run-off from the parking lot being directed to bio swales, a constructed wetland and water efficient landscaping. Special attention was paid to the building’s use of energy and its impact on the atmosphere and environment inside and out. Energy performance was optimized by 20%, in part by insulating the building with twice the standard level of insulation.
