Go to any marketing, PR or communications conference and there will be at least a few sessions on adding social media campaigns to your marketing mix. The fact is, social media is what's hot right now. Especially since much if it is free. And, in these rough times where marketing budgets are getting slashed up like victims in a horror flick, social media can be a business's savior. However, one big problem still exists. Many people still don't understand how to use social media or the benefits it can provide.
If you breezed over Walsh College student Brandon Chesnutt's article "Unfamiliar territory: The 2009 social media for business challenge" in the last Detroiter magazine, the article outlines a few simple steps you can make to evaluate whether social media is the right call for your business. If it is, he even gives you a few ideas on how to get started. Read his article.
Brandon will also be hosting an online Q&A session on Detroiter Online today (that's Feb. 3 for those of you behind on your email) where you can ask him about friendquests or anything else on your mind in the sphere of social media and networking. Join the conversation.

Thank you Walsh for posting a link to my article.
What I truly find thought provoking is the number of traditionally conservative professional service industries which are now becoming interested in social media. There are now social networks for professions such as lawyers, doctors and accountants, as well as an infinite number of blogs covering a wide range of business topics.
It really is an exciting time to embrace Web 2.0.
