TROY, MICHIGAN, January 15, 2010 -- Walsh College, the Troy Chamber of Commerce and the City of Troy are collaborating on a new project to offer success strategies to small businesses in Troy. “Take Off With Troy” will be launched on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at a special meeting that will include an Oakland County economic update presented by Deputy Executive Robert Daddow. Continental breakfast and networking will begin at 8 a.m. and details of the new program will be presented by Walsh College President Stephanie Bergeron, Troy Chamber of Commerce President Michele Hodges, and City of Troy Mayor Louise Schilling.

“Take Off With Troy” will offer the expertise of professional teams, called the “Flight Crew” – attorneys, accountants, bankers, marketers and others – who will conduct assessments and provide recommendations for Troy-based small businesses. To assist with the implementation of recommendations and manage change, Walsh College students in the Doctorate of Management in Executive Leadership will coach the business owners and managers. These services will be free of charge to Troy small business owners.
"Take Off with Troy" is an opportunity for existing businesses to grow and expand and for those newer to market to increase the odds of success. With these two components in place, and with a robust partnership between the public and private sectors, in tandem with higher education, an innovation based economy will take hold in Troy,” said Michele Hodges, Troy Chamber of Commerce president.
To be a part of the “Flight Crew,” providers of service will need to be able to commit time, service and a $1,000 participation fee. The overall project administrator will be John Shepherd, a Walsh College master’s degree student, and recipient of the Adams Entrepreneurial Fellowship. The Fellowship is funded by the Carmen and Ann Adams Fund, through the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan to encourage and promote entrepreneurship in the metro Detroit area.
